Darwin is an extraordinary, comprehensive discovery of the life, work, broad cultural impact, and legacy of Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882), best known for his revolutionary theories on evolution and natural selection. The publication of his masterwork, On the Origin of Species (1859), shook society to its core with the suggestion that humans had evolved from other animals rather than being the separate creation of God. Darwin focuses on the evidence that led to his ideas on evolution and examines the current reception and status of Darwinian evolution in modern-day science.
Darwin is organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York, in collaboration with the Museum of Science, Boston; The Field Museum, Chicago; the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada; and the Natural History Museum, London, England.
