Information and Resources from the 20th Annual Environmental Lecture and Luncheon: The American Museum of Natural History leads New York City’s Cultural institutions in energy savings. Since 2003, our steam use has dropped 27%, our electricity use has dropped 20%, and our carbon footprint has been reduced by 22%. GREEN DESIGN FOR THE URBAN HOME This year’s panel featured a selection of green-design experts who addressed topics ranging from home construction and organization to interior design. Lynn Sherr, moderator, former correspondent for ABC News' "20/20," now reports for a wide range of broadcast, print and online media, including PBS, public radio, The Daily Beast, More Magazine, Town and Country magazine, and others. Throughout her career, she has specialized in women's issues and social change as well as investigative reports. Her best-selling books include Outside the Box: A Memoir; and she co-edited Peter Jennings: A Reporter's Life. This was her seventh time moderating the Environmental Lecture and Luncheon. Rob Watson, panelist, is chairman, CEO, and chief scientist of EcoTech International (ETI). The "Founding Father of LEED," Watson is an international leader in the green building movement. Author Tom Friedman calls Rob "one of the best environmental minds in America." A senior scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council for 21 years, Rob founded ETI in 2007 to address global demand for green building technologies and services. Watson is a former director of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the national non-profit organization which manages the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard. Under Rob's direction, LEED became the largest and fastest-growing international standard by which green buildings are measured. Joshua Wiener, panelist, is CEO and founder of Silverlining Interiors Inc. (SLI), a general contracting firm specializing in high-end renovations for apartments and townhouses in the greater New York area. Josh was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and learned various trade skills from his father, including painting and carpentry, while renovating his childhood home, a 19th-century brownstone. After graduating from Vassar, Josh founded SLI in 1987 as a plastering and painting company, which by 1991 became a full-scale construction firm. SLI has recently taken the initiative to incorporate and educate their clients about green building techniques. Robin Wilson, panelist, is a nationally recognized eco-friendly and healthy home interior designer focused on the "foundation to the furniture." Industry insiders describe her style as "classic with a modern touch" and a focus on sustainable, reusable, recyclable, and non-toxic options. Her firm Robin Wilson Home is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. Robin has been featured in national media including O magazine, Kitchen Bath Business News, and The Wall Street Journal among others, plus in broadcast appearances on PBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, TV-One and HGTV in addition to commentary in various magazines and newspapers. The following companies and firms were suggested by our panelists during the discussion portion of the 20th Annual Environmental Lecture and Luncheon: ABC Carpet and Home The American Museum of Natural History is presenting the above list for informational purposes only; any mention of a company, service or product does not constitute an endorsement by AMNH. |
