A Tarahumara mask Courtesy of the Division of Anthropology
Explore ethnographic artifacts from Mexico, Central America, and South America that are not on view to the public. Highlights include Tarahumara masks, woven bags from the Museum’s first anthropological expeditions, poisoned blowgun darts, as well as textiles from Panama called molas—including one that draws inspiration from the United States space program in the 1960s. With members of the Museum’s Anthropology Department as your guides, learn about these objects, the people who made them, and the Museum’s techniques for collecting and preserving them. Family tour begins at 6:30 pm.
These 60-minute Members-only tours offer a rare glimpse into different scientific departments each month as a Museum scientist takes Members behind the scenes to explore collections, facilities, and more.
